Published:  •  6 min read

Last Date to Apply13 Sep 2026

RRB JE Recruitment 2026 is accepting online applications for 4,029 Level 6 technical vacancies across 21 Railway Recruitment Boards. Registration closes at 11:59 pm on 13 September 2026.[1][2][3]

The revised recruitment covers Junior Engineer, Depot Material Superintendent and Chemical and Metallurgical Assistant posts. Applicants need a matching engineering qualification or the specified science degree for CMA.

Application status: CEN 04/2026 opened on 14 August 2026. Corrigendum 1 added 36 vacancies, taking the official total from 3,993 to 4,029.

Why the RRB vacancy count changed after release

The detailed notice first listed 3,993 JE and DMS vacancies. Corrigendum 1 added 35 Chemical and Metallurgical Assistant posts and one JE Electrical TRS post.[1][2]

That correction creates the current total of 4,029 vacancies. Candidates should read the detailed notice together with the corrigendum before choosing an RRB or post.

One candidate can submit only one application to one RRB. Multiple applications can lead to rejection and debarment, so the RRB choice needs careful comparison.

Revised vacancies across the 21 RRBs

The largest listed totals are Kolkata with 457, Mumbai with 411 and Chennai with 377. Corrigendum additions affect Bengaluru, Bhopal, Chennai, Guwahati, Patna, Prayagraj and Secunderabad.[2]

RRB Revised vacancies RRB Revised vacancies

Bengaluru 299 Bhopal 120
Bhubaneswar 86 Bilaspur 124

Muzaffarpur 17 Patna 80
Prayagraj 341 Ranchi 122
Secunderabad 111 Siliguri 92
Thiruvananthapuram 101 Total 4,029

An RRB total can contain several departments and qualification groups. Annexure B remains essential because it shows the exact post, railway zone, category and medical standard combinations.

Match the post before assuming your degree qualifies

Junior Engineer eligibility depends on the discipline mapped to each post. The main groups cover civil, mechanical, electrical, electronics and their listed allied engineering streams.[1]

A three-year diploma is the usual notified route. A relevant higher engineering qualification can qualify where the detailed post parameters permit it. Candidates awaiting final results cannot apply.

Depot Material Superintendent qualification

DMS accepts a three-year engineering diploma in any discipline from a recognised university or institution. Applicants should still check the post parameters and medical standard before selecting preferences.

CMA qualification added by Corrigendum 1

CMA requires a recognised BSc involving Physics and Chemistry with at least 45 per cent marks. The corrigendum lists the accepted major and subject combinations.[2]

This science route does not automatically qualify someone for engineering JE posts. Likewise, an engineering diploma should not be treated as the notified CMA science qualification.

Age is measured on 1 January 2027

The standard age range is 18 to 33 years on 1 January 2027. The notice provides category and service-based relaxations under its detailed conditions.[1]

SC and ST candidates receive five years of upper-age relaxation. OBC non-creamy-layer candidates receive three years. Separate provisions cover eligible PwBD, ex-servicemen and serving railway staff.

Medical standards vary by post and can include A-3, B-1, B-2 or C-1. Corrigendum 1 added B-2, so candidates must inspect their preferred post code carefully.[2]

Two computer tests decide the technical shortlist

The selection route uses first-stage CBT, second-stage CBT, document verification and medical examination. Both computer tests apply one-third negative marking for each wrong answer.[1]

Stage Questions Duration Main coverage
CBT 1 100 90 minutes Mathematics, reasoning, general awareness and general science
CBT 2 150 120 minutes Awareness, science, computers, environment and technical ability

CBT 1 is the screening stage. RRBs shortlist candidates for CBT 2 from normalised CBT 1 marks, generally up to 15 times the community-wise vacancies.

Technical ability carries 100 questions in CBT 2. The chosen examination group therefore controls the technical syllabus and the posts available for preference.

Fee payment continues two days after registration closes

Most applicants pay an examination fee of ₹500. After appearing in CBT 1, ₹400 is refundable after applicable bank charges. Concession groups pay ₹250, refundable after appearing in CBT 1.[1]

The ₹250 group covers SC, ST, ex-servicemen, PwBD, female, transgender, minority and economically backward class candidates under the notice.

Registration closes on 13 September, while fee payment for submitted forms ends on 15 September. A form without confirmed payment is not complete.

Build the application around one final RRB choice

  1. Read the complete CEN and Corrigendum 1 first.
  2. Match your qualification with the exact post parameters.
  3. Compare vacancy, category and medical-standard rows.
  4. Choose one RRB because that selection cannot be changed.
  5. Create an account with your personal mobile number and email.
  6. Enter matriculation, qualification and category details accurately.
  7. Complete the live photograph step in the official portal.
  8. Upload the signature and applicable certificate files.
  9. Order eligible post and railway preferences carefully.
  10. Pay the fee and save the final application copy.

The modification window cannot change account details or the selected RRB. Some application choices remain locked. A ₹250 modification fee applies when eligible corrections are made from 16 to 25 September.[1]

The detailed notice supplies the main rules and post parameters. Corrigendum 1 changes the title, vacancies, CMA eligibility, medical standard and technical syllabus.[1][2]

Questions candidates are checking before payment

How many RRB JE vacancies are open in 2026?

The current official total is 4,029. The original 3,993 vacancies increased after Corrigendum 1 added 35 CMA posts and one JE Electrical TRS post.

Can a final-year diploma or degree student apply?

Candidates awaiting the prescribed qualification result cannot apply. The required qualification must exist by the application closing date, subject to the exact post rules.

Can one candidate apply to two RRBs?

CEN 04/2026 permits one application to one RRB only. Multiple applications can be rejected, and the selected RRB cannot be changed during modification.

Is BTech accepted for RRB JE posts?

A relevant higher engineering qualification can be accepted where the post parameters permit it. Candidates must match their discipline with Annexure A instead of relying on a generic engineering label.

What is the RRB JE application deadline?

Online registration closes at 11:59 pm on 13 September 2026. The official portal allows fee payment for already submitted applications until 15 September.

Does RRB JE have negative marking?

Both CBT stages use negative marking. They deduct one-third of the marks assigned to each wrong answer. Unanswered questions do not receive that deduction.

Choose from the post table, not the headline total

The 4,029 figure shows recruitment scale, but it does not establish individual eligibility. Your qualification group, chosen RRB, category, post preference and medical fitness control the valid options.

Read both official documents, then finish one accurate application before 13 September. Save the payment confirmation and submitted form for later examination stages.
