Educational Qualification
General Stream
Candidates need a Master’s Degree or a recognised two-year Post Graduate Diploma in any discipline, or a Bachelor’s Degree in Law, or a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering. Professional qualifications such as ACA/FCA from ICAI, ACS/FCS from ICSI, ACMA/FCMA from ICMAI or CFA from CFA Institute are also accepted as specified in the official advertisement.
Research Stream
Eligible qualifications include specified Master’s Degrees or recognised two-year postgraduate diplomas in Economics, Commerce, Business Administration, Econometrics, Quantitative or Financial Economics, Finance-related disciplines, Statistics, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Big Data Analytics and other listed subjects. A Master’s Degree in Mathematics with a one-year postgraduate diploma in Statistics or a related subject is also covered by the notification.
Actuary Stream
Candidates must be graduates from a recognised university or institute and must have passed or obtained exemption in all seven Core Principles subjects of the Institute of Actuaries of India examination.
Official Language (Rajbhasha)
The notification prescribes specified postgraduate qualifications in Hindi, Hindi Translation, Sanskrit, English, Economics or Commerce with the required Hindi/English subject combination at Bachelor’s level. Candidates should match their exact degree combination with the official PDF before applying.
PFRDA also states that candidates should be computer literate and conversant with MS Word and Excel. A candidate may apply for a maximum of two streams if eligible, but a separate online application and applicable fee are required for each stream.

The fee is non-refundable. Applicants submitting applications for two eligible streams must pay the applicable fee separately for each application unless exempted.
PFRDA Grade A Salary
The Grade A pay scale is ₹62,500–₹1,26,100 over the notified progression. According to PFRDA, gross monthly emoluments at the minimum of the scale are approximately ₹2,05,000 per month, including applicable allowances and PFRDA’s contribution to NPS. Other benefits are available under PFRDA rules.
Selected candidates undergo a two-year probation. PFRDA currently has offices in New Delhi and Mumbai, but selected officers can be posted anywhere in India depending on organisational requirements.
Selection Process

Phase I is for shortlisting only. Final selection is based on 85% weightage for Phase II and 15% for the interview.

There is negative marking of one-fourth of the marks assigned to a question in Phase I. Candidates must meet separate paper cut-offs as well as the aggregate cut-off.
Phase II Exam Pattern
Phase II contains a 100-mark descriptive English paper and a 100-mark Paper 2 based on the General or specialised stream syllabus. Paper 2 carries two-thirds weight within Phase II and has one-fourth negative marking for incorrect objective answers. Candidates up to five times the number of vacancies may be shortlisted for interview in order of merit, subject to PFRDA’s cut-offs.
