This recruitment uses separate state and category merit lists rather than one transferable national list, so applicants cannot submit valid forms for two different states.

Selected officers remain within their chosen state for the first 12 service years, unless promotion to SMGS IV permits an earlier move.

Where IOB has placed the 250 vacancies

State Required language Vacancies SC ST OBC EWS UR
Tamil Nadu Tamil 100 15 6 33 9 37
Karnataka Kannada 50 8 3 16 4 19
Maharashtra Marathi 50 7 4 15 5 19
Gujarat Gujarati 50 6 5 16 4 19
Total Not Applicable 250 36 18 80 22 94

The notice marks some positions as backlog vacancies, while its disability columns show horizontal reservations inside the relevant parent categories. Do not add them to the 250 total.

Tamil Nadu has the largest allocation with 100 posts. The other three states have 50 vacancies each. Choose from eligibility and language ability, not vacancy size alone.

Check your degree, birth date and language

A graduation result must already exist

Applicants need a degree in any discipline from a recognised university. An equivalent qualification recognised by the Central Government also qualifies.

The valid mark sheet or degree certificate must exist when the candidate registers, and applicants must enter their graduation percentage in the online form.

IOB LBO age limit on 1 August 2026

The regular age range is 20 to 30 years, covering eligible birth dates from 2 August 1996 through 1 August 2006, with both dates included.

Upper-age relaxation is five years for SC and ST candidates. OBC non-creamy-layer candidates receive three years. PwBD candidates receive ten years under the stated rules.

The notice also provides five-year relaxation for eligible 1984-riot affected persons. Qualifying ex-servicemen and specified commissioned officers receive five years, subject to the detailed conditions.

Local language is central to the choice

Candidates need reading, writing and speaking proficiency in the language linked to their selected state. Those languages are Tamil, Kannada, Marathi and Gujarati.

A candidate who studied that language in Class 10 or Class 12 can use the relevant evidence. Other shortlisted candidates must pass IOB's language proficiency test.

The language test comes before the personal interview. Failing it ends the selection route, even when the online examination score is otherwise sufficient.

How the online test and final selection work

IOB uses an online objective examination, an applicable language test and a personal interview. The objective test contains 140 questions, carries 200 marks and runs for three hours.

Online test section Questions Marks Time
Reasoning and Computer Aptitude 30 60 60 minutes
General, Economy and Banking Awareness 40 40 30 minutes
Data Analysis and Interpretation 30 60 60 minutes
English Knowledge 40 40 30 minutes
Total 140 200 180 minutes

Each section has a separate time limit, and a wrong answer loses one quarter of that question's assigned marks. Unanswered questions carry no penalty.

The notice sets no sectional qualifying score. The minimum aggregate is 35 per cent for unreserved candidates and 30 per cent for reserved candidates.

The interview carries 100 marks. Its qualifying score is 50 per cent for unreserved candidates and 45 per cent for reserved candidates.

Final scores combine the online examination and interview in an 80:20 ratio before IOB prepares state-wise and category-wise merit lists from eligible candidates.

Pay scale, probation and service bond

The Scale I basic pay starts at ₹48,480. The notified scale rises through scheduled increments to ₹85,920. Applicable DA, HRA and CCA follow bank rules.

Selected candidates serve two years of active probation and must execute a ₹2 lakh financial service indemnity bond covering at least three years of service.

Relevant prior officer experience in a scheduled commercial bank may earn up to two advance increments. IOB requires an employer-certified job profile and decides whether duties match.

Questions candidates are checking before registration

Is IOB Local Bank Officer registration open now?

The registration window remains open now. The official application portal shows registration, editing and fee payment from 8 August through 24 August 2026. Printing remains available until 8 September 2026.

Can a final-year student apply for IOB LBO?

The notice requires a valid graduation mark sheet or degree certificate on the registration date. A student without a declared qualifying result cannot meet that condition.

Can I apply for two IOB LBO states?

Candidates cannot apply for two states. The notification permits one state per candidate. The state also decides the required local language, posting area and state-wise merit list.

Is prior banking experience compulsory?

No prior experience appears as a basic eligibility requirement. Relevant officer experience may support advance increments, but every applicant still needs the notified graduation, age and language eligibility.

Is there negative marking in the IOB LBO exam?

The online test uses negative marking. IOB deducts one quarter of the marks assigned to each wrongly answered question. It makes no deduction for a question left unanswered.

Choose the state before paying the fee

The practical decision is the state-language combination. Check your Class 10 or Class 12 records, category documents, degree result and birth date before registration.

Then read the official advertisement once in full. Submit the form through IOB's linked portal by 24 August 2026, and retain both the receipt and application print.
